QUAD SQUAD MOVES INTO SEMI FINALS AS #1 SEED

Saturday, March 22, 2008

Final Scores: Quad Squad 77; Vaudeville Vixens, 76
Reservoir Dolls, 85; Unholy Rollers, 69

After two roof-raising match-ups in the last regular season bout of the 2008 season, the seeds are in for the league championships. Going into the semi-finals on April 12, the top-ranked Quad Squad will battle the fourth-ranked Unholy Rollers, and the number two Vaudeville Vixens will take on the Reservoir Dolls.

But don’t bet the seeds this year. After two more unpredictable bouts on March 22, any of the four home teams could take home the coveted league trophy this year.

The Quad Squad and Vixens rode a point-scoring seesaw throughout the first 20-minute period, trading the lead with never more than a handful of points between them. In period two, the Vixens pulled into the lead, sparked by a 10-point jam by Dolly Pardon Me, putting the Vixens ahead by one. The Vixen roll continued, and they were up by 12 by the end of the seventh jam. High scoring jams by Quad racers Jenny Knoxville and Thunder Kitten slashed the Vixen lead to 76-75 with one jam left. In the last jam, it was all a flash of green as the Quads snatched two points and held the Vixens scoreless.

Last year’s champs, the Reservoir Dolls, smarting from two losses in a row, took the track eager for a win against the revitalized Unholy Rollers. The black-and-white pack was back, and the Res Dolls gave up the lead in points just once when Jewels of Denile (UR) exploded off the jam line, cleared the pack in record time and took nine points and a momentary two-point lead after the seventh jam. Despite the strong challenge from the Unholy Rollers, the Res Dolls scored steadily until the buzzer and a final score of 85 69.

Milestone report: Crowd favorite Mouse scored her 500th career point during this bout.

Injury report: Crackerjack took a helmet to the jaw and went down during the second period. She was tended to by EMTs, and she reports the blow was bell-ringer, but without serious consequences.

Half-time entertainment featured the lively Irish band, The Currach and five crowd-pleasing young Irish step-dancers from the Trinity Academy of Irish Dance.

Part of this bout’s ticket sales benefits Midwest Environmental Advocates, a nonprofit organization that provides legal services and supports multicultural grassroots social movements to solve environmental problems.

The Res Dolls more than squeaked it out. They kicked some a#@! I think 17 points was one of the largest point spreads this season. Fear the Res Dolls, they will be in the champs for sure!
